Live United - Golf Tournament
WOW! What a wonderful golf tournament. A special thank you to Greg McClain and Mark Johnson for co-chairing the 2008 golf tournament for United Way. Their committee did an outstanding job and today they hosted the biggest tournament in United Way history. We were truly blessed with beautiful weather, 192 golfers, and sponors throughout the entire community. A special thank you to all sponsors and especially ALCOA for their corporate support in making this a great tournament. GIVE ADVOCATE VOLUNTEER Denny and Cindy |

Our First Visit: Birth to 3
My visit was amazing! I had no idea a child's brain triples during their first 12 months. And within the first 2 years, the brain has developed 60% of what a child will learn for the rest of their life. The need is greater that what we have available. The teaching program is very stimulating and creative. From frogs to butterflies, the program incorporates all 5 senses. The child learns touch and feel, id objects, and making sounds. The environment is very welcoming, and when you walk thru the door, you can see the special interaction between the teachers and the children. A structured environment can truly make a difference for a child, especially those who are developmentally challenged or are at high risk. They are especially good at how they mix the children together on an equal basis, and they try to make sure that children don’t fall through the cracks. Denny and I have seen child disabilities first hand. We have a niece that was born with only 15% hearing in one ear, and it wasn’t discovered until she was 18 months old. We saw how much our niece has grown and adapted despite her disability. I was so impressed with Pam Potocik with that program. She works so closely with those children. I hope we can help them meet the needs of children at a greater rate. The need is definitely out there! |
